1) Design Theatre for Scenario Based Design

(Lenja Sorokin, Sebastian Wendlandt; UID Ludwigsburg/ Munich)

No budget, no time but large quantitives of user research material. Is there a way to transfer knowledge between user researcher and concept developer under such constraints?

On Monday June 20th, Lenja Sorokin and Sebastian Wendlandt (UID Munich) will present a method that allows multi-disciplinary members of design teams to gain a deep understanding of users and the use context on very short notice. Their lecture on design theatre focuses on the re-elicitation of tacit knowledge that is often ignored in scenario-based design.

Lenja Sorokin and Sebastian Wendlandt will present their work as part of a three-year design project on ambient UIs for people suffering from dementia. The authors show why and how theatre can be used to transfer material from user research studies successfully into the concept development stage.

Empathy for users, creative thinking and communication skills to negotiate on design opportunities are pre-conditions for the development of user-friendly designs. All this can be achieved by theatre – using role play, story telling, props and stage.

Design meets theater where realities are represented and imagined. And it is true both for theatre and design: all actors need to play together!

Turkey Dinner (stationary, not mobile)

2) Consistency – Connectivity – Continuity. How to manage cross platform user experience and what a turkey dinner has got to do with it.

(Tobias Limbach; UID Ludwigsburg/ Munich)

Cross platform UX describes the UX that a user perceives across different platforms (mobile, PC, TV etc.) on a single service. Due to technical constraints, different output/input methods, changing context of use the UX is difficult to manage. We will discuss several possible ways how to manage the cross platform UX by following different strategies. For example, a possible strategy could be to to be as consistent as possible. Or another strategy could be to adopt the UX to the context of use. With different examples we will highlight the strategies and discuss advantages / disadvantages.

The turkey dinner will lead to the management framework that we have established for practical use.

Both presentations will be held in English. Please reserve seats via the Linkedin group.
